No rehearsal today. Instead we took care of some of the more labour-intensive tasks: getting platforms out of the wood storage and testing the lighting instruments.
I wasn't in on the platform moving; I was aware that we managed to get out the platforms we'd need and that supports keeping them off the basement floor were, unsurprisingly, thoroughly rotted. New plywood was purchased to replace them; there was a bit of delay when the two people sent to buy wood were given bad directions? not given directions? to Home Depot and ended up going to a Builder's Square somewhere way off.
Meantime, I was up in the Baker balcony. I had hoped to get the instruments tested quickly; instead a good couple of hours had to be spent just cleaning the balcony and getting it organized. The tarps that were supposed to keep stuff off the instruments were crumpled against the wall, and the floor (and the instruments!) were covered with salt, broken salt and pepper shakers, and dried-up tortillas. Most disgusting. And it's not pleasant to see what salt does to instruments. Plus, cables and wire and rope were all jumbled on the floor in disorderly, unpleasantly homogenous heaps. However, some work with Paul, Amit, and Gwen had everything ship-shape and reasonably orderly. (N.B.: when we go to hang the lights, must remember to bring an old toothbrush to scrub filth from the instruments, and a vacuum cleaner to clean out the balcony, which is still quite revolting. At least we got rid of the rotten apple and the tortillas.) And only five instruments are in need of trouble-shooting. Considering the conditions they've been living in, that's pretty remarkable.
