Minutes of the BGSA General Body Meeting
Date: Tuesday, November 13, 2001
Time: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by BGSA President, Victor Udoewa.
Graduate Student Association (GSA) President
Miles Scotcher, the GSA President, spoke with the BGSA about his
role in representing the graduates students and the role of the
GSA at Rice. The GSA serves as a social and problem solving forum.
The GSA meets of the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm
in Farnsworth Pavilion.
The meeting are open to all who want to attend. Each graduate student
should be receiving updates concerning GSA activities through your
GSA department representative. For more information visit the

website.
BGSA Holiday Social
The third annual BGSA Holiday Potluck will be held on
Saturday, December 8, at 6:00 p.m. in Minor Lounge. You can
sign up
on the BGSA website to bring your favorite dish.
Vacant Position
The position of
Vice President of Undergraduate Relations
is currently vacant.
The BGSA is seeking your assistance in filling this position.
If you would like to volunteer in this capacity please email
bgsa@rice.edu.
Black Student Coalition (BSC)
The BSC has tentatively scheduled the
following talks for the Spring 2002:
Nikki Giovani, Thursday, February 7, 2002
Eric Holder, Thursday, April 15, 2002
The BSC consists of members of the
Black Student Association,
the Black Graduate Student Association, and
the Rice chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers.
The BSC is working to continue this lecture series and is in
need of a BGSA representative.

Sunday nights. Paesano's downtown Milam and Franklin 7-10 (10 at
least), $5.
Monday nights. The Concious room: open mic at G's and Z's Coffee House
(near Reggae Hut)
4420 Almeda, 8-10 PM, sponsored by Poet on Watch, $3.
Thursday nights. Blaque Buttafly: open mic for ladies only, 8 PM, The
Breakfsat Klub outskirts of downtown
at Travis and Alabama, ladies free before 10, otherwise (and men) $5.

The BGSA receives inquiries from prospective students
about contacting black students in various departments.
Although the BGSA does have a list, we do not want to publish your
information online without your permission.
Attendance in Meetings
The BGSA meets not only to provide a forum for black
graduate students at Rice, but also to
provide black graduate students from different departments
an opportunity to
meet one another. We encourage your
continued attendance at future BGSA meetings.
