Examples of projects, web sites, and web applications I worked on at Web Services (Rice University), Reliant Energy, and NASA ( Johnson Space Center) since 2004 January.

Summer Camp Registration - Rice University

Description: Web application for summer camp registration including meal requests, audio-visual and computer needs.

Contributions:
Based on requirements designed HTML prototype for screens and interaction and worked closely with developer to finalize the application.

Keck Center - Rice University

Description: The Keck Center for Interdisciplinary Bioscience Training is the training section of the Gulf Coast Consortia (GCC). The GCC brings together the strengths of six member institutions to build interdisciplinary collaborative research teams and training programs in the biological sciences at their intersection with the computational, chemical, mathematical, and physical sciences.

Contributions:
Conducted heuristic evaluation for the web site. Redesigned some sections of the website, mostly forms, see examples below.

Conference Registration - Rice University

Description: A web application that allows conference set-up, registration and abstract submission for conferences and events at Rice University.

Contributions:
Conducted focus groups to find out about new features needed and to prioritize these features. Participated in requirements analysis for abstract submission section of the application, conducted competitive analysis, designed prototype and user interaction.

Campus Portal - Rice University

Description: Rice University web portal that includes directory, news, email, and a multitude of other options for customization.

Contributions:
Conducted focus groups to find out about preferences and options for customization. Designed information structure for specific user groups: faculty, staff and students. Worked with developer to implement application and tested the application.

Faculty Information System - Rice University

Description: The Faculty Information System is a web-based information system used to collect and report on the activities and accomplishments of the faculty. The system was designed to collect information for the Annual Report to the Provost. The system also houses course evaluation data and is used to generate faculty profile pages for the web.

Contributions:
Conducted a heuristic evaluation and in-depth interviews with faculty and staff. Based on the findings suggested changes to the navigation structure and redesigned forms. Also worked with developers to implement changes and wrote test plans to test the application.

Rice University web site

Description: This is the main web site of Rice University with specific sections for main visitor groups including prospective faculty, staff, and students.

Contributions:
Developed a proposal for the redesign of the Web site that included a plan of conducting surveys, information architecture design and testing (card sorting and user testing) prototyping, testing the prototype, and final user testing.

Events Calendar - Rice University

Description: Calendar of the Rice University events that includes search and a login section for posting news and events.

Contributions:
Conducted a competitive analysis and designed HTML prototype of the application.

Human Resources - Rice University

Description: This is the HR web site of Rice University that contains all the information and resources from HR and specific sections for main visitor groups including prospective faculty, and staff.

Contributions:
Participated in the redesign of the web site starting with conducting a survey and summarizing the findings. Developed new information architecture based on findings and discussions with subject matter experts followed by a design of a detailed wire frame for the web site. Specific attention was oriented to the content and structure of the Work-Life section of the web site.

Rice University Information Technology web site

Description: This is the web site of the Rice University Information Technology on computer security, accounts, printing, and other IT related issues. It has sections for main visitor groups including prospective faculty, staff, and students.

Contributions:
Conducted heuristic evaluation for the web site to help planning a redesign. Analyzed existing survey data to summarize feedback information. Suggested a redesign of the site structure and conducted card sorting to help designing a better information architecture and navigation for the web site.

Departmental and research group web sites - Rice University

Description: Various web sites at Rice University for departments and research groups.

Contributions:
Conducted heuristic evaluation and wrote usability reports with prioritized suggestions for changes.

Reliant Energy

Calculated conversion rates for different sections of the web sites such as account creation, online bill payment with credit card or bank account.
Collaborated with Marketing Research Group for the analysis of costumer satisfaction survey data with specific interest in electronic bill users.

 Usability, Testing and Analysis Facility, NASA Johnson Space Center

Conducted several literature reviews on topics such as display design, cursor control device evaluation, and fonts size readability. Participated in the design of an internal Human Factors and Engineering Web site. Designed studies to evaluate cursor control devices based on the ISO 9241-9 document. Developed prototype of the test battery and worked with developer to implement it with specific regard to the data collected through the battery.
