The Aegean Club Constitution

  1. The name of this organization is "Aegean Club".

  2. The purposes of this organization are as follows:

    1. to promote camaraderie among its members

    2. to stimulate members' involvement in social, recreational, and cultural activities concerning Greece

  3. Members of this organization shall be as follows:

    1. regular members: All students in the Houston area are eligible

    2. honorary members: All other persons interested in joining the club (i.e. faculty members, alumni, non-students, etc.) are eligible

    At least 60% of the regular members must be Rice University students. At least 50% of all members must be members of the Rice community.

  4. All regular members must pay the established annual membership fee. Honorary members are not required to pay any membership fees.

  5. All decisions will be voted on by the regular members. In order to make a decision, 60% of the organization's regular members must be present. In order to pass a decision, at least 51% of the present members must vote in the affirmative.

  6. The executive committee will consist of the following:

    1. the president, who shall oversee all the meetings and activities, and who shall make sure that, at all times, the organization is abiding by the rules and regulations set forth by the Student Association of Rice University. In the case that a representative is needed, the president will represent the organization on its behalf except in the case where another member has been assigned by vote according to the measures described in article 5.

    2. the secretary, who shall be responsible for documenting all association paperwork and who will distribute the minutes from all meetings.

    3. the treasurer, who shall maintain a correct balance of the organization's funds, who shall keep track of the checkbook of the organization, and who shall regularly make available a written breakdown of the income and the expenses of the organization.

    The presence of all members of the executive committee is mandatory for all regular meetings.

  7. Members of the executive committee shall be selected by general vote from the pool of candidates every six months according to the measures described in article 5.

  8. When necessary, special tasks can be assigned to members by vote according to the measures described in article 5.

  9. All money spent shall be voted on by the regular members. The authority to sign checks shall be given to the members of the executive committee. Two signatures are required for each check.

  10. The selection of the faculty sponsor for the organization must be voted on according to the measures described in article 5.
    Amendments to the organization's constitution can only be made by a vote according to the measures described in article 5.

Amendments in the Aegean club constitution

  1. Elections for the members of the executive committee are going to be held every year, the last week of September. When a member of the executive committee wants to quit or has to leave the club for personal reasons, new elections must be held only for the vacant position. Not scheduled elections can be held only when the 51% of the regular members ask for them.

  2. The presence of all members of the executive committee is not mandatory for all regular meetings. Meetings can be held and decisions can be taken when the 2/3 of the executive committee is present. If the president is absent, then the vice president/secretary is representing him and has the right of double vote.

  3. The president of the club must be a Rice University student.

  4. Meetings are scheduled to be held every three weeks. Not scheduled meetings can be held when the president or the secretary or 51% of the regular members asks for them.

  5. When a regular member does not show up regularly at the club meetings or refuses to pay the annual membership fee, he will be asked to leave the club. In addition, a member has to leave the club if 75% of the club members asks for it.

  6. A regular member of the club must propose the honorary members and at least 51% of the present members must accept the proposal. The honorary members are not required to pay any membership fees.

  7. If a regular member quits the club, he must pay the annual fee again in case he decides to re-enter the club.

  8. The executive committee consists of the members described in article 6 and:

    1. the social chair, who shall represent the Club in communications with outside individuals or organizations and be in charge of planning and executing various social events.
