Star-Lit Town

Lyrics by Aaron J Coyner

Another Technicolor sunset

Above this grayscale scene

This is not a normal life

That happens for the screen

Most everything is plastic

And everyone is fake

How much more forced happiness

Can anybody take?

There’s got to be a way out

There must be something real

How did there come to be this place?

A town where no one feels

But the truth cannot escape the box

Must not let the viewers down

Life must be just perfect

In this pleasant, star-lit town

Let’s talk about reality

We know they’ll take the bait

“Unscripted” but formulaic

I’m sure they can all relate

God forbid they educate,

Inform or entertain

Surely there’s more substance

Or is that just too insane?

For a town where simple thinking

Just causes too much pain

But the truth cannot escape the box

Must not let the viewers down

Life must be just perfect

In this pleasant, star-lit town

Let’s talk about reality

Away from the TV

Life can’t be as perfect

As it always seems to be

We’re all human and make mistakes

No cutting room floor or multiple takes

The plastic deforms over time

What emerges in its place?

Another plastic creation

With just another pretty face

Out here in reality

We all should move along

But instead the viewers wait

For another stupid song

Another scandal in the news

Another flying chair

An even as the rating soar

Does anybody care?

A stand must be must be made

And now is just the time…

What in the end becomes

Of our quiet, plastic town

The clicks of TV power…

Just melt it to the ground

Life’s no longer perfect

In this pleasant, star-lit town
