A walk through this exhibit is a mini-tour of the world, representative of the experiences Rice students have had while abroad. Here you have the chance to listen to street musicians with a young Tibetan friend, hold the intricately adorned hands of a bride in India, see the vibrant colors of western Australia, Seville, and Burano, Italy, and so much more. These experiences, from the mundane to the extraordinary, are part of what makes time abroad so profoundly life-changing for so many Rice students.

As profound as they are, these very experiences can be the most difficult to convey upon returning home. With this in mind, the goal of the Photo Contest and exhibit is to help students share with the greater Rice community the people, places, things and, just as importantly, the intangibles of an experience abroad.

Additionally, the contest now provides returned study and work abroad students with the opportunity to contribute to the expansion of international opportunities at Rice. By allowing their photos to be reprinted and purchased through International Programs, they are generating scholarship funds for future Rice students to go abroad.

Nearly 200 amazing photos were submitted this year, in both digital and print categories, and the judging was extremely difficult. The photographs displayed were judged to be among the best.

The contest has been generously supported by a number of sponsors, contributing services and prizes. In particular, we would like to thank Contiki Vacations and STA Travel for the donation of our amazing grand prize: an 8-day London and Paris Getaway! The contest would not have been possible without the help of these wonderful sponsors.
