The Cuban Beard

Habana, Cuba

This was the only man I saw while in Cuba that I suspected might be homeless. He certainly appeared to be homeless, covered from eyelash to fingernail in greasy residue that stained my shirt as he reached out to talk to me, but homelessness as far as I could tell doesn't exit in La Habana, Cuba. I believe that I offered him money to take his picture, but instead he simply wanted to talk, not the typical reaction of a "bum." We spoke for a while on beautiful church steps in Habana Vieja until a tourist patrol asked the man to leave. I was left to the resounding Cuban beat throughout the church courtyard, touched and yet unaffected by the bearded man.
