Dog's Eye View

Oia, Santorini, Greece

University of Arizona School of Architecture, Summer 2001

In the Greek Cycladic Islands, it can be difficult to tell where the ocean ends and the sky begins, especially in Santorini. Santorini is the most staggeringly beautiful place I have ever seen. The island was created by millions of years of volcanic activity; each eruption is recorded in the layers of rock that jut out of the ocean. The Greeks have created the perfect environment here. The understated buildings of dry stacked stone allow the landscape to prevail. This Dalmatian found the perfect spot in the sun to take in the view. Fortunately, she was willing to share it with me.
