Across the country on Veterans Day, November 11, 2004, Americans will honor and remember the men and women who have served in the military. On campus, Rice University will honor the more than 100 veterans among its faculty and staff at a noontime ceremony at the Rice Memorial Center flagpole.

Sponsored by Rice University, the ceremony will feature remarks by Provost Eugene Levy and Griffin Hetrick, Hanszen College senior and member of the Rice NROTC. Music will be provided by the Marching Owl Band and by Shepherd School student, tenor Daniel Williamson, Sid Rich freshman and student of Joyce Farwell. The ceremony will also include a flag- raising by the NROTC and recognition of military service. A reception will follow the 20-minute ceremony.

Employees and students who are veterans are invited to wear their uniforms
if they desire. All members of the Rice community are welcome to attend.
Last year, approximately 400 people attended the event. Early arrival is
encouraged as the ceremony begins promptly at noon. For additional
information, please contact Scott Helsinger in Human Resources. If it rains on Thursday, the ceremony will be held in the Chapel at the Rice Memorial Center.
