COURTYARDS
The
Shepherd School Courtyards are perhaps the most secluded spots on
the Rice Campus. They provide a common meeting place and relief
from rehearsals and practicing.
The North Courtyard is a favorite meeting place after Shepherd School
Orchestra rehearsals. It is a tranquil place to have lunch after
practicing or between classes. This courtyard is soothing with the
sounds of the central fountain and four smaller fountains around
the perimeter of the courtyard. Practice rooms are visible above
on the second floor of the building.
The South Courtyard is a tranquil place to have lunch after practicing
or between classes. This courtyard in particular is very lush and
green, with practice rooms visible above on the second floor of
the building. This courtyard is near the Wortham Opera Theatre and
the Edyth Bates Old Grand Organ. There is a spectacular night view
of the courtyard from either hallway adjacent to it during nighttime
and it makes a wonderful place during an intermission for an opera
or organ recital.
