GLBT Resources:
- GayHealth.com: The first health and wellness site dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered men and women.
- Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC): The oldest and largest not-for-profit AIDS organization in the United States is also affiliated with The David Geffen Center for HIV Prevention and Health Education.
- Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA): The goal of the GLMA is to increase the visibility of specific health concerns of LGBT patients and offer programs and services that advocate for the LGBT community.
- The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Health Access Project: Through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, this project aims to increase awareness of LGBT health issues, to reduce barriers to health care and prevention services, and to promote health norms for LGBT people.
- Gender.Org: This national organization focuses on the needs, issues and concerns of gender variant people.
Safer Sex, Contraception and Pregnancy Resources:
- Student Health Services (x4966): For Rice students, Health Services provides reproductive health care, contraception counseling and free pregnancy testing. Medical providers will help you decide the best treatment options and will provide referrals as needed. Please call us to make an appointment.
- Planned Parenthood (1-800-230-PLAN): A private nonprofit agency that provides high quality, affordable and confidential family planning services. They provide reproductive health care, STI testing, counseling and education to women and men of all ages and encourage people to make healthy choices when considering their reproductive health. Service costs are based on a sliding-fee scale and some insurance programs are accepted.
- Houston Area Women's Center (713-528-6798): The Houston Area Women's Center's vision, leadership, and action empower women to advance their roles, rights and well-being.
- National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association: NFPRHA is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to assuring access to voluntary, comprehensive family planning and reproductive health care services worldwide for all who need them.
- National Right to Life Committee: This sites hosts information and news releases about abortion alternatives, euthanasia, federal and state legislation and voting records.
- The Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI): An independent, not-for-profit organization for reproductive health research, policy analysis, and public education.
- Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS): SIECUS is a national, nonprofit organization that affirms that sexuality is a natural and healthy part of living.
Miscellaneous Resources:
- The Body: An AIDS and HIV Resource: It provides information on AIDS basics, prevention, testing, diagnosis and treatment; promotes conferences; addresses quality of life issues; and hosts bulletin boards for people to connect with each other and with resources.
- HIV/AIDS Treatment Information Service: The site offers a bilingual (English and Spanish) staff of health information specialists who can answer questions about HIV/AIDS treatment options using a broad network of federal, national, and community:based information resources.
- National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention: This CDC office is responsible for public health surveillance, prevention research, and programs to prevent and control HIV infection and AIDS, other STIs, and TB.
