Raising Resiliency at Rice: Tools for Bouncing Back
The Rice Counseling Center and the Wellness Center have teamed up to educate Rice students about the importance of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma or significant sources of stress. Learn how to be more resilient and gain the tools to better manage your stress by attending one of our upcoming events or by checking out the resources below.
Research shows that resilient people have these qualities:
-
Practice good self-care (adequate sleep, nutrition, etc.)
-
Develop active coping skills (a sense of humor helps!)
-
Know their limits and accept them
-
Have an established support network
-
Tend to exercise, which increases "brain plasticity" and enhances mood
-
Have a positive attitude and ability to reframe issues
-
Adhere to a core set of beliefs
Nirvana Sessions - Guided Imagery Sessions
Achieve lunchtime "en-lite-enment" during a 20-minute session of guided imagery
and relaxation. Close your eyes. Listen. Relax. Then resume your day calmer, more peaceful,
and refreshed. Guided Imagery is a deliberate, directed daydreaming that uses soothing music
and narrative to evoke multisensory memory, symbolism and fantasy. This combination gently
guides the overactive mind into a relaxed, immersive state of healing reverie. Many people
who have trouble meditating or relaxing do really well with guided imagery.
