How to choose between the Student Activity Fund and the President’s Programming Fund

UNIVERSAL GUIDELINES FOR THE FUNDS:

  1. The sponsoring source must make efforts to secure funds from other sources. 
  2. These grants are not intended to bankroll your events.
  3. Funds must be for a future event.
  4. Funding is never retroactive.  Therefore your event must occur after the deadline.
  5. Notification of the award received from the grant, if any, will arrive within one week of the award deadline.
  6. Grants must be submitted no later than 11:59 pm on the day of the deadline.  Anything submitted after midnight will not be considered until the next funding deadline.
  7. Money will NOT be awarded by either grant for the following items:
• Alcohol
• Contributions to campaign funds
• Donations to other organizations
• Office supplies
• Parking fees
• Parking tickets
• Partisan political endorsements
• Retroactive requests

Who can apply? 

  • Individuals
  • Student Organizations

 

Who can apply? 

  • Registered Student Organizations
  • Request must affect the larger Rice community and not focus on group specific events

Examples of what will be funded:

  • Airfare to conferences
  • Banquets
  • Conference Registration
  • Decorations for campus wide events
  • Educational Information (e.g. posters, pamphlets)
  • Equipment essential to club’s ability to function
  • Food for campus wide events
  • Hotels for Speakers/Performers
  • Performer’s fees
  • Rental fees
  • Service trips
  • Speaker honoraria
  • Student travel
  • Tournament registration
  • Vehicle rental

Examples of what will be funded:

  • Advertising Expenses including Thresher ads, fliers, library banner supplies
  • Artist Fees
  • Conference Fees
  • Costumes
  • Equipment purchases
  • Equipment rental
  • Food
  • Lodging for conferences
  • Publicity
  • Registration/Annual Fees
  • Room Rentals
  • T-shirts (event specific t-shirts such as World AIDS Day shirt which will be sold before an event, but not club t-shirts for members)

  • Banners
  • Cab/subway fares
  • Fliers
  • Food for individuals when traveling
  • Gasoline
  • Gifts for club members
  • Gifts for speakers
  • Major equipment purchases
  • Rental property
  • Salaries
  • T-shirts for club members

  • Club specific activities
    • Retreats
    • Parties
    • Social events
    • Meals for club meetings/outings
    • Holiday celebrations
    • Trips
  • Books
  • Cds
  • Decorations
  • Gifts
  • Items intended to raise money
  • Meeting based items (i.e. food, drinks, etc)
  • Umpires
  • Uniforms
