1. The name of this organization is “Rice Salseros”.
2. The purpose of this organization shall be as follows:
a. Provide a network of salsa dancers at Rice
b. Organize social and educational events in which dancers can share and develop their skills.
c. Serve as a liaison between the Houston salsa community and Rice students.
3. Membership to this organization shall be structured as follows:
a. All registered Rice students are eligible to become full members.
b. All Rice faculty and staff are eligible to become honorary members.
c. All other persons interested in the organization may join as limited members.
4. All full members must pay the established annual full membership fee. All honorary members must pay the established annual honorary membership fee. All limited members must pay the established annual limited membership fee.
5. The organization shall have an executive council which consists of the following positions:
a. Club officers
i. President: presides in meetings and oversees activities, ensures compliance with all Student Association of Rice University rules and regulations, delegates responsibility in the event of an office being vacant or special circumstances arising, serves as representative of the organization.
ii. Vice-president: fulfills presidential duties in the absence of the President, oversees implementation of all decisions voted into action.
iii. Information manager: ensures that all organizational paperwork is documented and safely stored, keeps minutes from all meetings, updates website, oversees all informational activity (i.e. flyer distribution, poster display, etc).
iv. Treasurer: maintains records for the organization’s funds, handles all financial issues, provides monthly summaries of the organization’s financial status.
b. A representative from each class (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior).
c. Club sponsor (no vote)
6. The executive council shall be populated by a general election requiring a 50% majority vote of the full members who wish to participate.
7. All decisions shall be made by voting. The President shall present voting issues to either the executive council or the full members. Decisions shall be passed by a simple majority vote of either the executive council or the full members.
8. In order for a decision to be passed by the executive council, all voting executive council members must participate in the vote. In order for a decision to be passed by the full members, more than 50% of the full members must participate in the vote.
9. All decisions involving expenditure of funds must be presented to the full members for voting. All executive council members shall possess check-signing authority. All checks shall require two signatures.
10. Changes to this document shall be made only by majority vote presented by the club sponsor to either the executive council or over 60% of the full members.
