  • Scholarships from the Student Conservation Assocation
    Interpret the natural world and the cultural heritage to National Park and Historic Site visitors from around the world. The Student Conservation Association offers exciting interpretation/visitor services internships. These internships are expense-paid! Here is a snapshot of some of the positions available in interpretation:

    Golden Spike National Historic Site: Position Code: GSNHS5-1
    Become part of history. Golden Spike National Historic Site was established in 1965 to commemorate completion of the world's first transcontinental railroad in 1869. Responsibilities include: research, develop and present interpretive programs, 35%; work in the park's visitor center, provide visitor information and perform fee collection duties, 35%; assist with special events and school groups, 15%; work in the library and with the museum collection, 15%. Training/Educational opportunities: interpretation, interpretive safety, CPR, AED First Aid and on the job training. Start Date: April, 2005

    Lava Beds National Monument: Position Code: LAVA11-10
    Lava Beds National Monument, located in remote northeastern California, is a 46,000 acre park on the slope of a large volcano where high desert climbs up to ponderosa pine forest in a landscape of cinder cones, lava flows, and over 500 lava tube caves. You will work within the Division of Visitor Services and Resource Protection performing both interpretation and Lava Beds Natural History Association-related duties. Responsibilities include: staff information and sales desk, 50%; lead interpretive walks and cave tours, 25%; maintain inventory and stock sales area, 15%; perform other interpretive and Natural History Association activities as needed, 10%. Training/Educational opportunities: interpretive program design, cash register operation, site specific orientation, and natural history. Start Date: March, 2005

    Carlsbad Caverns National Park: Position Code: CCNP3-20
    Introduce others to the amazing and mysterious world that lies beneath the desert landscape of southeastern New Mexico. One of the most amazing cave systems in the world, thousands of years of human history, and the rugged Chihuahuan desert await you. Responsibilities include: staff information desk, operate elevators, present short orientation talks, provide visitor assistance while roving cave trails, and interpret the Park's resources such as cave geology, cave biology, bats, surface flora and fauna, and cultural history, 90%; assist with rescues and first aid, 10%. Training/Educational opportunities: first aid/CPR (possible). Start Date: March, 2005

  • Full Scholarship for African-Americans
    Washington University in St. Louis, the Medical School, now ranked number 2 (along with Baltimore's John's Hopkins University Medical School) has scholarships to award to bright black Americans. The students that are chosen will be awarded full tuition for 4 yrs - $30,000.00 per year plus $2,500.00 stipend.

    The Ervin Scholars Program selection committee evaluates all Applications and invites finalists to Washington University for interviews in the spring. The University pays all travel and interview expenses.
