  • Humanitarian Medical Outreach

    Humanitarian Medical Outreach (HuMed) is a great organization for all Rice students who are interested in international medicine. The group's mission is to improve international health care through the efforts of university students working in conjunction with grassroots organizations around the globe. HuMed partners with NGOs for international service trips every summer to Kenya and Ghana, and is expanding the number of locations this year. On these trips, Rice students get first hand experience in the practice of medicine in developing countries and help implement community programs such as help implement programs in the local communities such as AIDS support groups and public health education programs. On campus, HuMed organizes monthly meetings with different speakers from the Houston community who have had different experiences in dealing with improving global health.

  • Students for Policy Awareness

    Students for Policy Awareness is a group of advocates for socially responsible health policy. SPA has formed in direct response to the crisis health care coverage in Texas. The group has two goals: increase public awareness of current health care issues and directly effect change by communication with decision-makers. SPA emphasizes awereness through activism and student events, while allowing core members to meet with professionals in the field of health care policy.

    The mission of the Rice University's Women's Resource Center is to increase awareness of and sensitivity to issues facing women in order to build a more supportive, dynamic atmosphere on campus. To provide opportunities for Rice University community members to educate themselves and encourage one another, the Women's Resource Center coordinators educational and social activities and programs. In addition, the Center offers information and support for groups and individuals that hold and interest in women's issues. By providing a setting for individuals to share ideas, engage in dialogue, and collaborate on programs, the Women's Resource Center encourages students to develop their leadership skills and to further their interpersonal, academic, and professional development.
