MADELEINE KABAT PERFORMS WITH CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA'S
High School Morning Concert Series

Each year, The Cleveland Orchestra performs a special 75-minute concert for Northeast Ohio's high school students. The Cleveland Orchestra's High School Morning Concert Series is designed to feature exceptionally talented young soloists and to present musical selections which show the diversity of the orchestral repertoire. The concerts introduce high school students to the traditional format of orchestral programs.

At 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 18th, 2005, Kabat made her performance debut with the Cleveland Orchestra in an educational inreach concert for hundreds of young people.

In Cleveland's Severance Hall, Kabat will perform Tchaikovsky's Variations on a rococo theme under the baton of Shepherd School alum and Assistant Conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra, James Gaffigan. Gaffigan is in his second season as an Assistant Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra and as Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, having been appointed to these posts by Franz Welser-Möst in June 2003.

Kabat was approached by Gaffigan who had heard her perform as principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, and in performance classes as a part of her participation in the Young Artist Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music. "The Rococo of Tchaikovsky's is a homage to Mozart, on a theme in a rococo style with seven variations " says Kabat. Madeline Kabat has performed this work twice, once in Reinberger Chamber Hall and once in conjunction with the Encore School for Strings Summer Festival in Hudson, Ohio.

Outside of her musical studies, Kabat enjoys ballet and swing dancing and is studying Latin dance especially the Flamenco and Salsa styles of dance at Rice University. Kabat a first year student is studying cello with Norman Fischer.
