Course summary
For undergraduate students taking ELEC424
as a
Design Elective course in Computer Engineering, they form teams as required
for a design course, interact with the instructor to plan and start a
design project. Student teams present an advanced topic related to their
design project. Student teams continue to work on the design project in
the following semester as ELEC494 to accomplish the design requirement.
Please read
ELEC424 Design Projects for more information.
For graduate and undergraduate students
taking ELEC424 as a regular course, each student presents a research
topic based on discussion with the instructor. Each student interacts
with the instructor to identify a research problem and makes an initial
attempt to solve it as the final project. Please read
regular projects for more information.
ELEC424 focuses on system and
application design. That is, we build working
application-specific systems, often using commercial off-the-shelf
(COTS) components . An ideal ELEC424 design project will address many
important aspects of modern embedded and mobile system design, including
sensing, interfacing, wireless communication, power optimization, and
more. Since such a project often requires comprehensive knowledge of
electrical and computing engineering, we encourage students from
different backgrounds to form teams.
