Welcome to Gonzalez Research Group !

The long-term goal of our research is the development of biological platforms for the production of chemicals and fuels from renewable sources. To this end, we use a wide spectrum of approaches and state-of-the-art techniques typically viewed under different disciplines such as chemical & biomolecular engineering, biochemistry, and molecular & cellular biology. Our research embraces three general areas: Metabolic Engineering, Functional Genomics and Systems Biology, and Microbial Fermentations. We are currently focusing our efforts in the following projects: (1) anaerobic fermentation of glycerol, (2) metabolism of 5- and 6-C sugar mixtures, (3) engineering nitrate and nitrite metabolic systems, and (4) fermentative metabolism of pyruvate.
