Using the Standard Keyboard (called "Russian Typewriter")
to type in Russian in Windows XP
Students
can also use the On-Screen Keyboard as reference for typing in
Russian.

Open Word, e-mail utility, or html editor.

Change to the Russian phonetic keyboard: at the top of
the screen, there is a language control icon.
The default is a blue EN. Click it, and then select
RU. A new tab will open up. Select "Russian Typewriter"
from this tab.

In Word, there is no need to change fonts.

With Internet Explorer, if the Cyrillic does not appear,
switch encoding by going to View -> Encoding -> Cyrillic (KOI8-R).

For Netscape Navigator, if Cyrillic does not appear, go
to Edit -> Preferences -> Fonts, select Cyrillic, and set
Times New Roman CYR and Courier CYR as the fonts.

For Netscape Composer, do the same as for Netscape Navigator,
plus go to View -> Character set, and select Cyrillic (KOI8-R).

Type in Russian.

To switch to English keyboard, going back to EN by clicking
the RU icon at the top of the screen.
