Introduction - Jackson Filter
This project takes advantage of the fact that different vocal patterns, tones, and other properties of music in general can be characterized by the distribution and change of their frequency components over time. It should be possible, we theorize, to derive a time-frequency mask of a given event (in our case, MJ’s scream), and cross-correlate the mask with the time-frequency distribution of a particular observation (for us, one of MJ’s songs). By thresholding the cross-correlation, we should be able to determine if, and when, Jacko lets it rip in a given song.
