If you are interested in joining HACER, email (mialopez@rice.edu) your name and email address to be placed on the email list. Please fill out a membership form to let us know what your interests are. The committee descriptions will give you an idea of our activities. Forms can be left at the HACER office or sent by campus mail (HACER, MS-526). Payment of dues ($10 check made out to "HACER") entitles you to member benefits such as voting in elections and a chance to receive special gifts. In years past, free tickets to concerts and airline travel were made available to members. This year there are a number of Hispanic leaders visiting Rice. HACER will have private sessions with these speakers open to members who have paid their dues.

A word from the President

Hello Everybody! This Fall Semester we have a whole set of activities prepared for HACER members, and even the Rice and Houston Communities. We have been working hard throughout the summer to be able to bring great events from day 1. HACER is an organization that has existed for more than 30 years willing to serve as a comfort group for Hispanics at Rice. We have grown considerably throughout the years and as a result, we serve as a platform for students to exhibit their culture and for others to learn about such. We are an active organization throughout the year. This year will not be the exception. We are coming strong full of energetic individuals able to demonstrate the Hispanic/Latino culture. Throughout the years, we have been able to serve those that feel they need to see those people they can relate with. We have also served as the group for those that want to establish a stronger connection to their roots and know more about their culture. We also serve to those that would like to know more and simply have fun! We are not only an educational group, but also one that is willing to have fun from movie outings to club outings. Let's not forget about the occasional restaurant trips. HACER is headed by 10 great individuals. Yet, we are not limited to these 10 officers. On the contrary, a great deal of the work that HACER does comes from those of you that are always willing to help out in organizing and setting up for small and large events. I am also always available for any input. I crave constructive criticism. If you have an idea for an outing or meeting topic we should discuss, I will try my best to fulfill your wishes. Hey, I might even buy any type of food you prefer for that meeting. I'm very accessible, don't forget to say hi when you see me or even IM me if you need help in anything. I'm always ready for late night restaurant study breaks. Have a great year.and be prepared because HACER is stronger than ever!!!
