The Rice University Mathematics Tournament is an annual event for high school students from schools in the southern United States. Organized by Rice undergraduate students, it has been held almost every year at the Rice University campus in Houston since 1981. The contest categories are Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Advanced Topics, General Mathematics, and two different team tests. All tests present challenging problems that involve high levels of critical thinking. Schools have an opportunity to win sweepstakes awards based upon the performance of their students. Students are provided an opportunity to listen to a lecture by a Rice University mathematics professor, and can meet many students from all across the state at the tournament. The Rice Mathematics Tournament hopes to offer a challenging and exciting day for all participants.
The 2008 tournament took place on February 23. The date for the 2009 tournament is set for February 21. (Although the contest is generally held on the last Saturday in February, Rice's spring break next year is February 28 - March 8, so volunteer support would most likely be insufficient.)If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail the tournament directors at rice.eulers@gmail.com.
