Assignments and Due Dates

Week one of the fall semester 2008 begins 25-Aug. For full credit, prelab assignments must be submitted by the indicated day. Consult the section on research papers for submission instructions for writing assignments. The policies page explains the course policy toward writing assignments that are submitted late.

Week one (Mon 25-Aug to Fri 29-Aug)

  • There are no assignments to turn in until you have completed your first laboratory session
  • The Week 1 schedule page lists web resources to examine prior to your laboratory session and items that you will need for the laboratory
  • At the end of the first lab period (and every lab period after) turn in copies of notebook pages as instructed

Week two (Tues 2-Sep to Fri 5 Sep)

  • [Recommended] complete the tutorial on plotting data before you complete prelab #1
  • Prelab #1 must be completed and submitted electronically by midnight before your lab day this week
  • Because we cannot have a Monday lecture, you must review the background information on the experiment on flagellar regeneration before your laboratory session; use the Next buttons to read the pages in order
  • There are no other assignments to turn in this week except for your notebook pages at the end of the laboratory session
  • Download the annotated writing examples (pdf) to help you with your writing assignments

Week three (Mon 8-Sep to Sat 13-Sep)

  • The Monday talk will present Calibrated Peer Review and how it will be conducted for this course
  • Background reading for the first calibration assignment will be made available Monday 8-Sep
  • Prelab #2 is to be completed and submitted electronically by midnight before your lab day this week
  • The materials and methods and results section for the first research paper are due at the beginning of your laboratory session this week
  • We will convert your results section to a pdf and put it on line at the link that you will receive in the week 3 Monday lecture
  • You must enter your link in the "Text Entry" stage of CPR no later than midnight Friday Sept. 12
  • Calibration and reviews #1 go active Saturday 13-Sep

Week four (Mon 15-Sep to Fri 19-Sep)

  • Prelab #3 is to be completed and submitted electronically by midnight before your lab day this week
  • Complete the calibration, peer review, and self review for paper #1 by 5 pm Friday 19-Sep (CPR will close precisely at 5); view results

Week five (Mon 22-Sep to Fri 26-Sep)

Week six (Mon 29-Sep to Fri 3-Oct)

  • Background reading for the second calibration assignment will be made available
  • Prelab #5 is to be completed and submitted electronically by midnight before your lab day this week
  • The Materials and Methods section for paper #2 is due at the beginning of your laboratory session this week

Week seven (Mon 6-Oct to Fri 10-Oct)

  • Your results section for paper #2 is due at the beginning of your laboratory session this week
  • We will convert your results section to a pdf and put it on line at the same link that you received in week 3
  • You must enter your link in the "Text Entry" stage of CPR no later than midnight Friday Oct. 10
  • Calibration and reviews go active Saturday Oct. 11
  • Prelab #6 is to be completed and submitted electronically by midnight before your last lab day

Week eight (midterm recess to Fri 17-Oct)

  • Complete the calibration, peer review, and self review for paper #2 by 5 pm Friday 17-Oct (CPR will close precisely at 5); view results

Week nine (Mon 20-Oct to Fri 24-Oct)

  • Background for calibration #3 will become available Monday 20-Oct
  • Submit the discussion, abstract, and introduction for paper #2 by Friday 24-Oct, 4 pm (NOT 5 pm)

Week ten (Mon 27-Oct to Fri 31-Oct)

  • We must have your materials and methods and results sections for paper #3 by 4 pm Tuesday 28-Oct (drop in the mailbox in BL 211)
  • We will convert your results section to a pdf and put it on line at the link you received week 3
  • You must enter your link in the "Text Entry" stage of CPR no later than midnight Friday Oct. 31
  • Calibration and reviews #3 go active Saturday Nov. 1

Week eleven (Mon 3-Nov to Fri 7-Nov)

  • Complete the calibration, peer review, and self review for paper #3 by 5 pm Friday 7-Nov (CPR will close precisely at 5); view results

Week twelve (Mon 10-Nov to Fri 14-Nov)

Weeks thirteen-fifteen – no assignments due

Final

  • The scheduled day for the final exam will be posted here when the finals schedules are completed
  • For those who have a conflict with the scheduled final, alternative finals will be conducted in BL 141 at 9 am and 2 pm the first two weekdays of finals; you need not sign up
