Beier Lab
Current Research

Research in the Beier lab falls within two main areas:

Adult intellectual development. We are interested in understanding motivational and situational components and traits such as cognitive ability and personality that are related to intellectual development throughout the lifespan. We are currently investigating the relationship between age and performance in achievement settings. This work includes examining the types of training interventions that might be most appropriate for older learners and the development of knowledge structures over the course of formal instruction.

Predicting success in organizations and educational settings. A related research stream is understanding the predictors of performance in achievement settings. This research includes examining the validity of measures used to assess cognitive abilities and non-ability traits such as personality and motivation -- measures used to select individuals in work and educational settings. An additional focus is understanding the non-ability traits that may influence performance on achievement tests.

Directions

Room 203 is located in the courtyard of Sewall Hall.

Once you enter Sewall Hall from the Inner Loop go past the Rice Art Gallery take Staircase C down to the 2nd floor. Take a right into the hallway and go through the double-doors leading outside. The lab is the last room on the left (203).

If you require an elevator: Once you enter Sewall Hall take the elevator on the left. Go to the 2nd floor. Once you are off the elevator take a left, then a right down the first hallway. When that hallway dead-ends you will turn left and go through the double-doors. 203 will be toward the end.
